Celebrating our recently announced partnership with the University of Cumbria, we are sharing an exclusive lecture by Dr. Carroll Smith, one of the appointed research fellows in this new partnership. Dr. Smith first gave this lecture, “Mason in the 21st Century,” at our 2018 Charlotte Mason Institute Conference, and this audio is one of the extensive resources usually available exclusively to Alveary members.
Abstract: What were Mason’s expectations of those who came after her? Were we to remain in the thought and ideas of her day? Were we to keep up with current thought, research, and the ideas of our own day? Are we to take her principle that the child is born a person and use what God is revealing to us through current science to learn more about how to teach a child as a person? Or, should we remain within the Victorian culture? Dr. Carroll Smith explores these ideas and more in this lecture to see how Mason would lead us.
